Steglujan (Ertugliflozin/Sitagliptin) is a combination medication used, together with diet and exercise, to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes. Steglujan is not for the treatment of type 1 diabetes. Steguljan belongs to a class of drugs called antidiabetic combinations, and includes two medications, ertugliflozin and sitagliptin. Steglujan Side Effects:

Common side effects of Steglujan may include urinating more than usual, upset stomach or diarrhea, headache, or cold symptoms.

Contact your doctor immediately if you notice more serious side effects such as:

• Little or no urination;
• New pain, tenderness, sores, ulcers, or infections in your legs or feet;
• Severe or ongoing pain in your joints;
• Signs of an autoimmune reaction (itching, blisters, breakdown of the outer layer of skin);
• Signs of a bladder infection (pain or burning when you urinate, increased urination, blood in your urine, fever, pain in your pelvis or back);
• Signs of dehydration (dizziness, weakness, feeling light-headed, like you might pass out);

• Signs of pancreatitis (severe pain in your upper stomach spreading to your back, with or without nausea or vomiting);

Steglujan Directions:

Steglujan is usually taken once per day in the morning. Follow all directions on your prescription label and read all medication guides or instruction sheets. Your doctor may occasionally change your dose. You may take Steglujan with or without food. Your blood sugar will need to be checked often, and you may also need to test the level of ketones your urine. Ertugliflozin can cause life-threatening ketoacidosis (too much acid in the blood). Even if your blood sugar is normal, contact your doctor if a urine test shows that you have ketones in the urine. You may have low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) and feel very hungry, dizzy, irritable, confused, anxious, or shaky. To quickly treat hypoglycemia, eat or drink a fast-acting source of sugar (fruit juice, hard candy, crackers, raisins, or non-diet soda). Your doctor may prescribe a glucagon injection kit in case you have severe hypoglycemia. Be sure your family or close friends know how to give you this injection in an emergency. Also watch for signs of high blood sugar (hyperglycemia) such as increased thirst or urination. This medicine can cause unusual results with certain lab tests. Tell any doctor who treats you that you are using Steglujan. Store at room temperature away from moisture and heat. Keep unused tablets in the foil blister pack in its original container.

Steglujan Precautions:

You should not use Steglujan if you are allergic to ertugliflozin or sitagliptin, or if you have:

• Diabetic ketoacidosis;
• Severe kidney disease

To make sure Steglujan is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have ever had liver or kidney disease, a bladder infection or urination problems, problems with your pancreas, a diabetic foot ulcer or amputation, heart problems or blood pressure problems, blood circulation problems, gallstones, nerve damage in your legs, high triglycerides, alcoholism, or if you are on a low salt diet. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant while using this medication. Blood sugar control is very important during pregnancy, and your dose needs may be different during each trimester. You should not use Steglujan during the second or third trimester of pregnancy. You should not breastfeed while using this medication. Steglujan is not approved for use by anyone younger than 18 years old. Avoid drinking alcohol while using this medication, as it may cause unwanted side effects. Avoid getting up too fast from a sitting or lying position, as you may feel dizzy. Steglujan may interact with several medications, especially bexarotene and gatifloxacin. Tell your doctor about any medications, vitamins, or herbal supplements you are currently taking or have recently taken in order to reduce the risk of any possible interactions.
