Zithromax Information:

Zithromax (generic name: Azithromycin) is a drug which is prescribed for the treatment of bacterial infections in the body. The active ingredient in Zithromax is Azithromycin. Azithromycin belongs to the group of drugs called antibiotics. It is a macrolide antibiotic which is related to enthromycin. Zithromax is used to treat a variety of infections that are caused by bacteria. These can include infection of the respiratory system (lungs, throat), skin infections, ear infections, kidney or uterine infections and sexually transmitted diseases. Bacteria are living organisms that have only a single cell. They multiply very quickly by splitting into two bacteria. They are very small and can only be seen under a microscope. Many bacteria are good for the body, but some are infectious. The type of antibiotics that are prescribed for the infection depends on the type of bacterial infection that you have. Zithromax is effective against a wide variety of bacteria, and you doctor will prescribe accordingly.

Zithromax Side Effects:

As with any drug, there may be side effects from taking Zithromax including mild nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, stomach pain, dizziness, fatigue, headache, nervous feeling, sleep problems, vaginal itching or discharge, mild itching, skin rash, ringing in the ears, problems with hearing or a decreased sense of smell or taste. More serious side effects may include diarrhea that is watery or bloody, chest pain, uneven heartbeat, nausea, stomach pain, low fever, loss of appetite, dark urine or severe skin reaction. If you experience any side effects you must seek immediate medical attention for safety.

Zithromax Directions:

You should follow the instructions of the doctor who prescribed it you, and there will also be dosage and information on the pack. Zithromax comes in tablet form. Swallow the tablet whole with water, with or without food. Do not chew, crush or break the tablet as this may cause for too much of the drug to be released into the body at once, which can have undesirable effects. Zithromax should be stored at room temperature away from direct light and heat. Ensure that you always take the full course of tablets, even if you begin to feel well as relapses can occur if you do not complete the medication.

Zithromax Precautions:

If you are allergic to any of the ingredients of Zithromax you should not take it, and should inform your doctor. You must consult your doctor if you have any pre-existing medical conditions, including liver or kidney disease, myasthenia gravis, a heart rhythm disorder or a history of Long QT syndrome. It is very important to also consult your doctor if you are taking any other medications as they may interact with Zithromax, including digoxin, carbamazepine, cyclosporine, phenytoin, pimozide, theophylline, triazolam, warfarin, other antibiotics, calcium channel blockers, cholesterol medications, HIV/AIDs medications or alprazolam. You should also inform you doctor if you are pregnant, planning to conceive or breastfeeding as Zithromax may cause harm to your baby. Beware that antibiotics usually reduce or stop the effectiveness of birth control medications, and you are therefore advised to use additional protection such as condoms while taking antibiotics.
