Levitra (generic name: Vardenafil HCl) is an efficient oral medication for the treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED), also known as impotence. Erectile dysfunction is a disorder which means that men have problems either getting an erection or keeping an erection long enough for intercourse. Levitra belongs to the group of drugs called phosphodiesterase inhibitors. The active ingredient in Levitra is vadenafil. Vadenafil works by helping to relax the muscles and increase the blood flow to the penis with sexual stimulation. This aids in achieving and maintaining an erection long enough for intercourse. Levitra does not work without sexual stimulation and does not increase libido or sexual desire. Many men experience erection problems and erectile dysfunction can occur at any age, but is more common among men over the age of 40-50. Erectile dysfunction is also more common in men who have or have had an enlarged prostate and men suffering from depression.
