Amoxil Information:

Amoxil (generic name: Amoxicillin) is a penicillin antibiotic drug used for the treatment of various types in infections that are caused by bacteria, including ear infections, bladder infections, pneumonia, gonorrhoea, and the E.coli or salmonella infection. Helicobacter pylori infection also sometimes causes stomach ulcers which can also be treated with Amoxil in conjunction with another drug called clarithromycin, also known as Biaxin. The two drugs together can also be used with a stomach acid reducer drug called Iansoprazole, also known by the brand name Prevacid. Many infections come with symptoms that appear to be a common cold although they can be different. Amoxil has different names in other countries: in India it is known as Tormoxin, and Amoxycillin in Australia. Amoxicillin is susceptible to degradation by certain bacteria in the body, and it is therefore often mixed with clavulanic acid which prevents the drug from degrading so much. It also increases the effectiveness of the drug. It works by inhibiting the synthesis of the cell walls of the bad or infected bacteria. Amoxil is one of the most commonly prescribed antibiotics, especially for children as it also comes in liquid form.

Amoxil Side Effects:

As with any drug, there may be side effects from taking Amoxil including stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, itching in or around the vagina, unusual vaginal discharge, headache, and a swollen, black or “hairy” tongue. More serious side effects may include white patches or sores in the mouth or on the lips, fever, swollen glands, rash/itching, joint pain, generally feeling ill, blistering of the skin, peeling skin or rash on the skin, severe tingling or numbness, pain anywhere in the body, weak muscles, easy bruising and unusual bleeding. If you experience any side effects you must seek medical attention immediately for safety.

Amoxil Directions:

You should follow the instructions of the doctor who prescribed Amoxil to you. Directions and dosage information can also be found on the pack or leaflet inside the pack. Amoxil comes in capsule form. You should swallow Amoxil whole with a glass of water. Do not break or chew tablets as this may result in too much for the drug being released at once, which can have undesirable effects. Amoxil should be stored at room temperature away from direct sunlight and heat.

Amoxil Precautions:

If you are allergic to any of the ingredients of Amoxil, you should avoid taking it and inform your doctor. You must consult your doctor if you have any pre-existing medical conditions including asthma, liver or kidney disease, mononucleosis (also known as mono), a history of diarrhea from taking antibiotics or any type of allergy. You must consult your doctor if you are taking any other medications as they may interact with Amoxil, including probenecid, blood thinners, other antibiotics, sulfa drugs and tetracylcine. It is important that you inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to conceive or breastfeeding as Amoxilmay cause harm to unborn and new born babies. Antibiotics also affect the effectiveness of birth control drugs and devices, it is therefore advisable to ensure that condoms or another form of protection is used while taking antibiotics and for up to a week afterwards.
The generic alternative is not manufactured by the company that makes the brand product.
