Lokelma (Sodium Zirconium Cyclosilicate) is a medication used to treat hyperkalemia (high potassium levels) in adults. Lokelma works by binding to the potassium in the gut. It works directly in the intestines and is not absorbed into the bloodstream. As it can’t be absorbed, it is able to bind to excess potassium in the intestines and remove it from the body through excretion. Symptoms of hyperkalemia include nausea, fatigue, muscle weakness, tingling sensations, slow heartbeats, or a weak pulse. Your doctor will discuss the most effective treatment for your symptoms.
