Advocate Side Effects:

The common side effects after using this medication on your dog or cat include itching, hair loss, greasy fur, and redness of the skin, which are mostly seen in the area where the medication was applied. These side effects usually resolve without any medical treatment. Other less common side effects that may require medical attention include hives, rash, swollen face and ears, cough, difficulty breathing, fast breathing, vomiting, diarrhea, unusual weakness, agitation, and loss of appetite.

Usually, Advocate is administered on the parts where your dog or cat cannot lick. However, if your dog/cat licks the application area or accidentally ingests this medicine, there are certain side effects that your dog/cat may experience. These include excessive salivation, vomiting, lack of muscle coordination, loss of balance, abnormal breathing, shaking, and seizure. Contact your Vet should you notice any of these side effects.

Advocate Directions:

Advocate is available in different concentrations and strengths depending on the type of animal (i.e., whether it is a dog or cat) and the animal's weight. The dose and duration of Advocate use depend not only on the type of animal and its weight but also on the parasitic infection being treated. Therefore it is important to consult your veterinarian for adequate instructions on how to use this medicine on your pet. However, Advocate is usually applied to the skin every four weeks in most cases. You can also find detailed information about the use of this medication on its leaflet or pack.

Before applying this medication on your dog, make sure the dog is standing. Part the coat between the shoulder blades until the skin is visible and remove the seal of the pipette of the medication. Place the pipette on the skin and empty its contents on the skin by squeezing firmly on the pipette. For dogs less than 25kg, the medication is only applied on one spot. For dogs above 25kg, Advocate is usually applied evenly at 3 or 4 spots along the top of the back, between the shoulder blades and the tail. Before applying on each spot, part the fur to fully expose the skin and apply gently to ensure the medication is evenly applied across all spots. To apply on cats, separate the fur at the base of the skull until the skin is fully exposed. Squeeze the pipette firmly and repeatedly to empty its contents on the cat's skin. Ensure you apply the medication on intact skin. Store this medication at room temperature (less than 30⁰C). Keep away from children's reach. Ensure appropriate disposal of this medication and avoid disposal in water bodies.

Advocate Precautions:

Do not use this medication in dogs and cats with a history of allergic reactions to the ingredients of Advocate. This medication is not recommended for use in pregnant or breastfeeding animals. Advocate use in sick dogs and cats, or less than 1kg in weight, is not recommended unless your veterinarian approves. Ensure that you use the appropriate Advocate spot-on-solution for your pet. Do not use the Advocate solution meant for small cats for dogs or large cats and vice versa. Do not use Advocate solution on any other animal, especially Canaries. While applying this medicine on your pet, ensure it doesn't come in contact with the eyes and mouth of your pet. Prevent your pet from grooming with other animals after being treated with this drug. Ensure your pet doesn't swim in water bodies for at least four days after applying this medication, as Advocate solution is dangerous to water bodies.

Ensure you wash your hands thoroughly after applying this medication on your pet. If this medicine accidentally comes in contact with your skin or eyes, rinse and wash thoroughly with soap and water. After application, do not stroke or groom animals until the application site is dry.
