Ovol Information:
Ovol (generic name: Simethicone) is used to relieve abdominal discomfort or pressure caused by excessive gas and bloating. Simethicone is an antiflatulent or anti-foaming medication that works by mopping up small gas bubbles in the gut thus allowing trapped air to pass freely. It is made from a mixture of silica gel and dimethicone (a form of silicone) which are good adsorbents. Ovol is used by babies, children and adults for symptoms of gas and bloating. It may also relieve colic and aid easy feeding and digestion in infants. This medication may also be used for other medical conditions not listed here; ask your doctor or pharmacist if Ovol is appropriate for you.

Ovol Side Effects:
Ovol (simethicone) is well-tolerated by both children and adults. When used as directed, Ovol usually does not cause any side effects. A serious allergic reaction to Ovol is also very rare. However, if you experience any unusual reactions while taking Ovol such as facial or tongue swelling, wheezing, or serious rash, promptly report to your doctor for necessary care.
Ovol Directions:
Ovol is available as 40 mg/ml oral drops for infants and babies and as regular-strength (80 mg) tablets, ultra-strength (180 mg) tablets and softgels for older children and adults. The regular-strength and ultra-strength tablets are flavored and chewable; however, the softgel is to be swallowed whole. Do not chew Ovol softgels. For Adults and children over 12 years, chew thoroughly and swallow 1 tablet or as needed after meals and at bedtime (preferably 3 times in a day). Do not take more than 8 tablets in 24 hours. If you bought the ultra-strength softgel, swallow the softgels in a similar manner. To use Ovol drops for infants (up to 2 years), give 0.25 ml – 0.50 ml (10 mg – 20 mg) as needed with or after meals. Shake the bottle well each time before giving this medication. Do not give more than 1.5 ml (60 mg) in 24 hours. You may add the drops to the baby's formula or give directly from the dropper.
Ovol Precautions:
You should not take or give Ovol to a child if you or the child is allergic to simethicone or any other ingredients in this medication. Make a list of all prescription and OTC medications, herbs and supplements that you or your baby is taking currently and show them to your doctor on appointments. Before taking Ovol, tell your doctor about your medical conditions especially if you have a thyroid disease. Ovol may reduce the effect of medications used in treating thyroid conditions such as levothyroxine or liothyronine. Inform the doctor if you are or planning to become pregnant or breastfeed. Also notify the doctor if you got pregnant while taking Ovol. Give Ovol to a child only under the instruction of your pharmacist or doctor.
