Prandimet Information:

Prandimet (generic name - Repaglinide/Metformin) is used to control high blood sugar in patients with type-2 diabetes mellitus. It is usually used with a proper diet and exercise regimen in patients previously treated with meglitinide alone or Metformin alone, in which blood sugar is still not well controlled. Prandimet contains two active ingredients, Repaglinide and Metformin. Repaglinide belongs to a class of antidiabetic medication called meglitinide, while Metformin belongs to the class of antidiabetic drugs called biguanides. Prandimet works through the action of repaglinide by stimulating the pancreas to release more insulin, a substance responsible for lowering blood sugar. It also works through the action of Metformin by blocking the liver from releasing sugar, reducing the amount of sugar the intestine absorbs.
