Edarbi Information:

Edarbi (generic name azilsartan medoxomil) is used to lower high blood pressure in adults, alone or along with thiazide diuretics or calcium channel blockers. Edarbi is an angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB). You can recognize an ARB because its medicinal ingredient ends in“-SARTAN”. This medicine does not cure your disease. It helps to control it. Therefore, it is important to continue taking Edarbi regularly even if you feel fine. Symptoms of high blood pressure include severe headache, fatigue, confusion, chest pain, difficulty breathing, vision problems, and irregular heartbeat. If you are diagnosed with any of the symptoms, your doctor will discuss the most effective treatment for your particular condition.

Some of the serious side effects of this medication include low blood pressure, increased or decreased levels of potassium in blood, irregular heartbeat, urinary tract infection, allergic reaction, kidney and liver problems, swelling of the legs and feet, muscle pain that you cannot explain, and decreased platelet count. If you experience any side effects (including the ones not listed here), stop taking the medication and seek medical attention immediately.

Edarbi Directions

You should follow the instructions of the doctor who prescribed Edarbi to you. Directions and dosage information can also be found on the pack or leaflet inside the pack. Edarbi is available as tablets in the dosage form of 40 mg and 80 mg. It is recommended to take your dose at about the same time every day. Edarbi can be taken with or without food. Usual adult recommended dose is one 40 mg tablet once a day. If your blood pressure is not well controlled, your doctor may increase the dose to 80 mg, and/or decide to add another medicine. Edarbi medication should be stored at 15-30°C, protected from light and moisture. It should be kept out of the reach and sight of children.

Edarbi Precautions:

If you are allergic to any of the ingredients of Edarbi, you should avoid taking it and inform your doctor. You should also not take Edarbi and consult your doctor, if you have experienced an allergic reaction (angioedema) to any ARB, are pregnant or intend to become pregnant, are breast feeding, are already taking a blood pressure-lowering medicine that contains aliskiren (such as Rasilez) and you have diabetes or kidney disease. Edarbi can cause dizziness, light-headedness and fainting especially after the first dose and when the dose is increased. Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how the medication affects you. Tell your doctor if you are taking any medications especially amlodipine, lithium, agents increasing serum potassium, such as a salt substitute that contains potassium, potassium supplements, or a potassium-sparing diuretic, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen, medicines used to treat fungal infections like ketoconazole, blood pressure-lowering drugs, including diuretics (“water pills”), aliskiren-containing products (e.g.Rasilez), or angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE)inhibitors.

The generic alternative is not manufactured by the company that makes the brand product.
