Sprycel (Generic Name: Dasatinib) is a cancer medication used for the treatment of adults in all phases of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) (chronic, accelerated, or myeloid or lymphoid blast phase) with resistance or intolerance to prior therapy including Gleevec (imatinib mesylate). Sprycel is also used for the treatment of Philadelphia chromosome positive (Ph+) acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL) with resistance or intolerance to prior therapy. Dasatinib is an oral tyrosine kinase inhibitor works by inhibiting the activity of proteins within leukemia cells that are responsible for the uncontrolled growth of the cells. By inhibiting these proteins, Dasatinib kills the leukemia cells in the bone marrow and allows normal blood cells to be produced.
