Menopur (Menotropins) is a prescription medication that contains follicle stimulating hormone and luteinizing hormone activity. Menopur stimulates healthy ovaries to make eggs and is used for women who need medical help to get pregnant. Menopur is also used to stimulate the development of multiple eggs for in vitro fertilization. It is also used to stimulate the production of sperm in men who have functioning testes but in whom hormonal stimulation is deficient. Menopur is usually used in combination with another hormone called human chorionic gonadotropin-hCG to help you become pregnant. This medication works by stimulating the ovaries to produce eggs. It helps ensure that ovulation occurs at the expected time. The treatment with Menopur should start within the first 7 days of the menstrual cycle with treatment given every day for at least 7 days. The starting dose is normally 75-150 IU daily but this may be adjusted depending on your response up to a maximum of 225 IU.

Menopur Side Effects:

Undissolved Menopur, in powder form, should be stored in the refrigerator or at room temperature 37°F to 77°F (3°C to 25°C) and is good until the expiration date printed on the vial.

Menopur Precautions:

Menopur is not recommended for women whose ovaries no longer make eggs properly. You should not use Menopur if you are allergic to Menotropins or if you have any other allergies. Before using this medication, talk to your doctor about your medical history especially of other fertility problems, blood clotting disorders, obesity, stroke, lung problems and certain heart diseases.This medication may make you dizzy. Alcohol and marijuna can make you dizzier. You should not drive, use machinery or do any activity that requires you to be alert. You may have multiple births because of this treatment.
