Biltricide Information:

Biltricide (Praziquantel) is a medication used to treat infections caused by certain parasites such as Schistosoma and liver flukes. These parasites typically enter the body through skin that has come into contact with contaminated water, usually found in Africa, South America, Middle Eastern countries, the Caribbean, and parts of Asia. Biltricide belongs to a class of medications called anthelmintics. Anthelmintics work by entering the cells of the parasite and preventing it from functioning normally. It paralyzes the parasite, which causes them to release their hold on blood vessel walls so the body can remove them, then it kills them. Symptoms of parasitic infections include abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, gas or bloating, and unexplained weight loos, among other symptoms. Your doctor will prescribe the best treatment for your symptoms.

Biltricide Side Effects:

Biltricide Directions:

Follow all of your doctor’s instructions carefully. Biltricide is typically taken 3 times in one day. Take your doses 4 to 6 hours apart on that day. Biltricide should be taken with food and a full glass of water. You may need to break or split the Biltricide tablet to get the correct dose. Follow your doctor’s instructions. Do not chew the tablet. The bitter taste of the tablet could cause you to gag or vomit. If a child is taking Biltricide and cannot swallow the tablet whole, crush the tablet, and mix it with a liquid or semi-solid food. The child should swallow the mixture right away without chewing. Contact your doctor if your symptoms do not improve, or if they get worse. Store at room temperature away from moisture and heat. Keep out of sight and reach of children.

Biltricide Precautions:

You should not use Biltricide if you are allergic to praziquantel, if you have a parasitic infection in your eye, or if you have taken rifampin in the past 4 weeks. To make sure Biltricide is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have ever had lumps (nodules) under your skin, seizures or epilepsy, liver disease, or heart problems. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding in order to discuss any possible risks. Avoid driving or hazardous activity on the day you take Biltricide, as well as the day after. Your reactions may be impaired. Grapefruit may interact with this medication and lead to unwanted side effects. Avoid grapefruit products. Tell your doctor about any medications you are currently taking or have recently taken in order to reduce the risk of any possible interactions. This medication is only for use in adults and children who are least 1 year old.
