Zovirax Cream Information:

Zovirax cream (generic name: Acyclovir, also called Acivir Cream) is commonly used today, for treating cold sores that are on the face and lips. This condition is caused by the herpes virus and it works as it is able to stop viral replication of any form. It must be noted that this medication does not cure the herpes virus and it will also not stop a transition of the virus to other people. For recurrent infections aciclovir cream is most effective if treatment is started as soon as the first signs of the infection begin to reappear. What is it used for?
• Genital herpes (herpes simplex infection)
• Herpes simplex infections of the skin, e.g., cold sores

Zovirax Cream Side Effects:

As with all medications, there may be a chance that you experience some side effects. These side effects are very rare, and it is not a regular occurrence for them to have been reported whilst a person is this medication. It is however important that you recognize the signs and the symptoms of a side effect and also you should be aware of an allergic reaction once you have taken this medication. If you experience any side effect whilst using this medication, then you should stop using it immediately and consult your doctor for further information. Some of the most common side effects associated with Zovirax cream are a burning and stinging sensation of the lips, a dryness of skin on the lips and also an itching sensation after use of the cream.

Zovirax Cream Directions:

You should always use the medication as it is prescribed to you from your doctor or physician. It is important that you do not take any dose, which is higher than that in which has been prescribed to you as this can make you more susceptible to the known side effects, that have been reported with this medication. For the best results you should begin to use Zovirax cream as soon as you see the first signs of a cold sore developing. You should also not shower or bathe immediately after use of the medication as it relies on absorbing into the skin to be able to work. To ensure that the cold sore is healed and does not come back, you should use this medication to the end of your prescription. Even if you feel you no longer need to apply the medication, this is to ensure that no infection or bacteria is left within the body.

Zovirax Cream Precautions:

You should not take this medication if you are known to be allergic to any of the ingredients, which are used to make it. You should make regular visits to your doctor to ensure that the drug is not having an unsound effect within your body, and to ensure your condition is improving. You should not use any cosmetic products such as sunscreen or lip balm on the lips whilst using this medication, unless you have been instructed to from your doctor. If you become pregnant whilst using Zovirax, it would be best that you discuss any worries that you may have in regards to the use of this medication, with your doctor. Inform your doctor of any other medications that you currently use, as they may interact with Zovirax. This is because Zovirax is absorbed into the bloodstream, so there may also be a risk of an overdose, if you are using other medications.
