Acular Information:
Acular (generic name - Ketorolac) is used to prevent and treat the symptoms of inflammation, such as pain, redness, swelling, burning sensations, excessive tears, and other symptoms caused by cataract surgery. It is also used in treating eye itching caused by seasonal allergies. Acular belongs to a class of medication called nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS). It works by preventing the body from producing specific natural substances that cause inflammation, thereby reducing pain, swelling, and other symptoms.

Acular Side Effects:
This medication may cause side effects just like all medications, although not everyone experiences them. Common side effects of Acular include eye pain, eye irritation, burning or stinging sensation in the eye, eye redness, headache, and eye itching. These side effects are temporary and usually resolve spontaneously. However, if these side effects last or worsen, inform your doctor immediately.
Serious side effects that may occur with the use of Acular include persistent eye itching/pain, eye discharge, burning or stinging sensation in the eyes that fail to resolve, blurred vision, eye bleeding, and swelling of the eye and eyelid. Other serious side effects include dizziness, rash, itching/swelling, especially of the face, throat, and tongue, and difficulty breathing. Seek immediate medical help if you notice any serious side effects or others not listed here that bother you.
Acular Directions:
The appropriate dosage may vary from one individual to another depending on what it's being used for and various other factors. Therefore, it is important to use this drug as instructed by your doctor. The recommended dose for adults is one drop into the affected eye(s) three times a day, starting 24 hours before surgery and continuing for up to 3 weeks after eye surgery. Before applying this eye drop, wash your hands and remove any contact lens in the affected eye. Tilt your head back, look up and gently pull down your lower eyelid. Hold the dropper over your eye and squeeze one drop into the eye. Let go of your lower eyelid and close your eyes for 1 minute. Apply pressure to your eye by placing one finger at the corner of your eye near your nose to prevent the medication from leaking out from your eyes. However, avoid rubbing your eyes and also do not blink. Put back the cap of the dropper and tighten it. Avoid touching the tip of the dropper to avoid contamination. If you are also using any other eye drops or ointment, wait at least 5 minutes after applying Acular before applying the other eye medication. If you forget to take a dose, apply it as soon as you remember unless it's time for the next dose, in which you have to skip the missed dose and continue with your normal routine. Please do not use more than the prescribed dose to make up for a missed dose, as it can lead to side effects. Store this medication at room temperature and keep it away from light and out of children's reach. Ensure proper disposal of this medication after 28 days of opening the dropper cap.
Acular Precautions:
Do not use this medication if you are allergic to Ketorolac, other ingredients of Acular, aspirin, and other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Inform your doctor about any previous or current medical condition you may have, including the following:
• Asthma;
• Bleeding and blood disorders such as anemia;
• Diabetes;
• Eye conditions such as dry eye syndrome;
• Nasal polyps;
• Peptic ulcers disease;
• Previous recent eye surgery;
• Rheumatoid arthritis;
• Stomach or intestinal ulcers;
• Viral or bacterial infections of the eye.
The use of Acular is not recommended in individuals less than 18 years of age. Do not use this medication during pregnancy or while breastfeeding unless prescribed by your doctor. Do not drive or operate machinery while using Acular until you can do it safely, as it can temporarily cause blurry vision. Certain medications like corticosteroids and other eye medications can interact with Acular, affecting its action in the body. Therefore, it is important to inform your doctor of any medicine you are currently taking to determine if it can interact with Acular.
The generic alternative is not manufactured by the company that makes the brand product.
