Uniphyl Information:

Uniphyl (generic name – Theophylline SR 24 HR) is used to treat asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases such as bronchitis and emphysema, and other breathing problems. Uniphyl belongs to the class of drugs called Xanthines. It works as a bronchodilator by relaxing the airway's smooth muscles for easy breathing and by suppressing the airways' response to stimuli. By controlling the symptoms of breathing problems, you can decrease time lost from work or school. Uniphyl must be used regularly to be effective. It does not work right away and it should not be used to relieve sudden breathing problems. For sudden breathing problems, use your quick-relief inhaler as prescribed.
