Cardizem CD Information:
Cardizem CD (generic name: Diltiazem CD) is a drug which is prescribed for the treatment of variant and stable angina, high blood pressure, poor circulation in the fingers and toes (Raynaud's phenomenon), involuntary movements (tardive dyskinesia) and/or to prevent heart attacks. It belongs to the group of drugs called calcium channel blockers. It works by relaxing the muscles of your heart and blood vessels. Cardizem CD differs from Cardizem (not CD version) is that Cardizem CD comes in extended release capsules, compared with Cardizem which comes in extended release tablet form. The chemical make-up is the same for both types of the drug and both are used to treat the same medical conditions in patients. High blood pressure can lead to severe illnesses including heart failure, stroke and heart attack and so it is important for those over 50 to be checked regularly, as hypertension often carries no symptoms.
Cardizem CD Side Effects:
As with any drug, there may be side effects from taking Cardizem CD including headache, dizziness, weakness, fatigue, upset stomach, nausea, sore throat, cough, stuffy nose and flushing. More serious side effects may include red or blistering skin rash, swelling in the hands or feet, trouble breathing, slow heartbeats, dizziness, fainting, fast or pounding heartbeat, upper stomach pain, itching, loss of appetite, dark urine and severe skin reaction. Cardizem CD Directions:
You should follow the instructions of the doctor who prescribed it you, and there will also be dosage and information on the pack. Cardizem CD comes in extended-release capsule form and can be taken with or without food. It should be taken with a full glass of water. Do not crush, break or chew Cardizem CD as this may cause too much of the drug to be released at once which could have undesirable effects.
