Janumet Information:

Janumet (generic name: Metformin/Sitagliptin) is an oral drug which is prescribed for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. The generic drugs Metformin and Sitagliptin make up an oral diabetes medication. Metformin works by helping to control blood sugar levels. It helps to regulate the blood sugar levels of diabetics, and works by regulating the levels of insulin produced in the body after eating. Sitagliptin works by regulating the insulin levels in the body after eating. Janumet is prescribed for type 2 diabetes only, as it is not effective in type 1 diabetes. Janumet is commonly used as part of a diabetes control program that includes diet and exercise. Patients with diabetes commonly experience symptoms such as blurred vision, cuts/sores which take a long time to heal, itchy skin, yeast infections, leg pain, dry mouth and excessive thirst. Diabetes can be diagnosed by a simple blood test, and if you are diagnosed your doctor will discuss the most effective treatment for your particular condition.

Janumet Side Effects:

As with any drug, there may be side effects from taking Janumet including diarrhea, mild nausea, upset stomach, headache, weakness and cold symptoms such as a runny nose and cough. There may also be more serious side effects including pancreatitis, feeling short of breath, swelling or rapid weight gain. If you experience any side effects you must seek medical attention immediately for safety.

Janumet Directions:

You should follow the instructions of the doctor who prescribed Janumet to you. Directions and dosage information can also be found on the pack or leaflet inside the pack. Janumet comes in tablet form. You should swallow Janumet whole with a glass of water after a meal. It is usually prescribed to be taken daily. Do not break or crush the tablets as this may cause too much of the drug to be released at once. It may be prescribed as part of a complete diabetes control program. Janumet should be stored at room temperature away from direct sunlight and heat. You should check your blood sugar levels regularly while taking Janumet.

Janumet Precautions:

If you are allergic to any of the ingredients of Janumet, you should avoid taking it and inform your doctor. You must consult your doctor if you have any pre-existing medical conditions. You must consult your doctor if you are taking any other medications as they may interact with Janumet, including other diabetic medications, probenecid, NSAIDs, blood thinners, heart or blood pressure medications, sulfa drugs or MAO inhibitors. Other medications when used in conjunction with Janumet may cause hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), so check with your doctor. It is important to know the signs of low blood sugar which can include dizziness, hunger, feeling weak, sweating and shaking. It is also important that you inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to conceive or breastfeeding as Janumet may cause harm to unborn and new born babies. Janumet can increase the risk of developing lactic acidosis.
