Welchol Information:

Welchol (generic name: Colesevelam) is known as a cholesterol lowering medication, and it is now often prescribed to help treat problems that may be induced due to bad cholesterol (LDL). The way in which this medication works, is to lower the amount of bad cholesterol in your body, as this will then reduce the risk of hardened arteries in the body. Hardened arteries can lead to heart attacks, strokes or other circulation problems for you in the future if both they and the causes of them are left untreated. This medication can also be used in conjunction with other cholesterol lowering medications such as Lipitor and Lescol.

Welchol Side Effects:

As with all medications, there may be a chance that you experience some side effects. These side effects are very rare, and it is not a regular occurrence for them to have been reported whilst a person is this medication. It is however important that you recognize the signs and the symptoms of a side effect and also you should be aware of an allergic reaction once you have taken this medication. Some other known side effect that are linked towards the use of this medication are mild constipation, nausea, felling weak or tired, headaches, muscle pains and flu like symptoms. If you experience any of these side effects as a result of using this medication, you should seek further advice from your doctor.

Welchol Directions:

You should always use the medication as it is prescribed to you from your doctor or physician. It is important that you do not take any dose, which is higher than that in which has been prescribed to you as this can make you more susceptible to the known side effects, that have been reported with this medication. You should take this medication with a full glass of water and also immediately after a meal. Never take this medication on an empty stomach. You may also have to take several tablets as one dose whilst using Welchol, and if you are using the powder variation, then you will normally only have to dissolve the one sachet into a glass of water. These guidelines are strictly generic guidelines and the advice given to you from your doctor should always be followed.

Welchol Precautions:

You should not take this medication if you are known to be allergic to any of the ingredients, which are used to make it. You should make regular visits to your doctor to ensure that the drug is not having an unsound effect within your body, and to ensure your condition is improving. You should not take any other medications whilst using Welchol, unless your doctor has confirmed that this would be ok, and would have no effect on Welchol, or cause a serious side effect. You should inform your doctor if you are taking medications such as Dilantin, DiaBeta or any birth control pills as the use of Welchol can make it hard for your body to absorb other medications.
