Premarin Information:

Premarin (generic name: Conjugated Estrogens tablets, USP) is an approved drug which is prescribed for the treatment of menopause symptoms including hot flushes, irritation and burning in the vagina and vagina dryness. It is also prescribed for the prevention of osteoporosis in post-menopausal women, as well as other conditions which cause a lower amount of estrogen in the body. It is also sometimes used as a cancer treatment in both men and women including some types of breast cancer. If you are being treated only for the vaginal menopause symptoms, other types of treatment should be considered such as vaginal creams, tablets and rings and there are also several medications available for the treatment of bone conditions like osteoporosis which should be considered before taking hormone medications like Premarin.

Premarin Side Effects:

As with any drug, there may be side effects from taking Premarin including mild nausea, vomiting, breast tenderness, increased body hair, loss of head hair, vaginal itching or discharge, changes in weight, changes in appetite, freckles on the face, headaches, dizziness, changes to menstrual cycle and fatigue. More serious side effects may include chest pain, body weakness, abnormal vaginal bleeding, confusion, memory problems, confusion, jaundice, breast lumps, swelling to hands and feet and pain or swelling of the lower leg. If you suffer from any side effects you should seek immediate medical attention for safety.

Premarin Directions:

You should follow the instructions given by the doctor who prescribed Premarin to you, and there will also be dosage and directions on the pack. Do not exceed the stated dose. Premarin is usually taken daily, and may be given in a cycle for some illnesses. Premarin should be swallowed with water, and can be taken with or without food. Premarin should be stored at room temperature away from heat, direct sunlight and moisture.

Premarin Precautions:

Do not take Premarin if you are allergic to any of its ingredients, and consult your doctor. It is importnat to tell your doctor if you have any pre-existing medical conditions including high blood pressure, endometriosis, liver or kidney disease, asthma, epilepsy, diabetes, thyroid conditions, high cholesterol, migraines, high/low calcium in the blood, SLE, gallbladder disease, history of stroke or if you have had a hysterectomy. Premarin is not recommended for use of patients who have a history of heart attack, stroke or blood clots, abnormal vaginal bleeding, or any type or breast or uterine cancer. You should consult your doctor if you are taking any other medications as these may interact with Premarin including antidepressants, barbiturates, blood thinners such as warfarin, thyroid medications, rifampin, seizure medications, insulin and diabetic medications and ketoconazole. You must tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to conceive or breastfeeding.
