Genoptic Side Effects:

The more common side effects noticed with the use of Gentamicin Sulfate include: eye-stinging, eye burning or redness, temporary blurred vision and burning or stinging in the ear. Inform your doctor immediately if these side effects do not resolve spontaneously within a few days.

Pull the lower eyelid away from the eye with your index finger to make space. Apply the appropriate number of drops into the space and gently let go of the eyelid. Keep your eyes closed for 1-2 mins and do not blink or rub your eye. Remove any contact lenses before applying this drug. Do not apply the contact lens without checking with your doctor first. If you are using another kind of eye medication (such as drops or ointments), wait at least 5 minutes after applying Genoptic before applying other medications.

The generic form of this drug can also be used to treat bacterial infections in the ear. To apply in the ear, wash your hands first. Lie down or tilt the head so that the infected ear faces up. Gently pull the earlobe up and back for adults (down and back for children) to straighten the ear canal. Drop the medicine into the ear canal. Keep the ear facing up for about 1 or 2 minutes to allow the medication to come into contact with the infection. You can gently insert a sterile cotton plug to prevent this drug from leaking out of the ear.

To keep this drug germ-free, do not touch the applicator tip on any surface (including the eyes or ears). Also, keep the container tightly closed. For complete and effective treatment, keep using this medicine for the full time of treatment, even if your symptoms have disappeared. Do not miss any dose. Genoptic Precautions:

Inform your doctor of any history of allergic reactions to Genoptic and its ingredients, other aminoglycoside medications, or any other medications. Tell your doctor about any medical conditions you may have, including:

• Eye conditions requiring the use of contact lenses and other ear problems;
• Myasthenia gravis.

Certain medications interact with Genoptic, thereby potentiating or limiting its effects, although this may not always occur. Some of these include the following:

• Pancuronium.
