Lotemax Information:

Lotemax (generic name: Loteprednol Etabonate Ophthalmic Solution 0.5 %) is a drug which is prescribed for the treatment of eye swelling caused by surgery, infection, allergies, and other conditions. Loteprednol is in a group of drugs called corticosteroids. It prevents the release of substances in the body that cause inflammation. It is commonly used for patients who have had cataracts surgery to reduce the swelling caused by the surgery. It is not used for all inflammatory conditions of the eye, however your doctor will advise accordingly. In two 28 day trials using Lotemax, 72% of patients saw reduced swelling and redness compared with just 64% using other types of anti-inflammatory drugs. Clinical studies of Lotemax have been conducted in post-operative inflammation following cataract surgery, acute anterior uveitis, giant papillary conjunctivitis, and seasonal allergic conjunctivitis all showing excellent results.

Lotemax Side Effects:

As with any drug, there may be side effects from taking Lotemax including minor burning when using the drops, dry or itchy eyes, watery eyes, feeling like there is something in your eye, increased sensitivity to light, headache, runny nose and sore throat. More serious side effects may include signs of new infections such as new swelling or irritation, problems with vision and severe pain or burning when using the drops. If you experience any side effects you must seek immediate medical attention for safety.

Lotemax Directions:

You should follow the instructions of the doctor who prescribed it you, and there will also be dosage and information on the pack. Lotemax comes in eye drop form. To use, you should tilt your head back, pull your lower eyelid down and squeeze in the amount of drops that you were prescribed. Lotemax should be stored at room temperature away from direct light and heat. Ensure that the nozzle remains clean as a contaminated nozzle may cause an infection.

Lotemax Precautions:

If you are allergic to any of the ingredients of Lotemax you should not take it, and should inform your doctor. You must consult your doctor if you have any pre-existing medical conditions, including glaucoma, cateracts or an eye infection. You should consult your doctor if you are taking any other medications, as they may interact with Lotemax including any other eye medications.
