Fucidin Information:

Fucidin (Sodium Fusidate) is a narrow-spectrum antibiotic that acts mainly against gram-positive bacteria. The topical form of Fucidin is used in the treatment of bacterial skin infections such as wound infections, and cutaneous infections. Although different types of bacteria are responsible for these conditions; a bacterium called Staphylococcus aureus is a common cause. Sodium Fusidate stops the growth of the bacterium by interfering with bacterial protein synthesis, specifically by preventing the translocation of the elongation factor G (EF-G) from the ribosome. Thereby, it stops the growth of bacteria without killing them directly. Then the bacteria eventually die, or the immune system destroys them and clears the infection. It is also used is used to treat conditions where the skin is infected by bacteria, such as impetigo (a weeping, crusty and swollen patch of skin), infected dermatitis (inflammation of the skin) and spots, infected cuts and grazes.

Fucidin Side Effects:

It's unusual to have side effects with Fusidic acid cream or ointment. Some people get skin irritation when they put on the cream or ointment. This happens in less than 1 in 100 people. Keep using the cream or ointment, but talk to your pharmacist or doctor if skin irritation bothers you or does not go away. The following are some of the side effects that may be associated with Fucidin. Just because a side effect is stated here does not mean that all people using Fucidin will experience that or any side effect.

Fucidin (Sodium Fusidate) topical common side effects include burning sensation, irritation, itching, and redness at the site of application. If you experience any other symptoms due to this medicine, speak with your doctor or pharmacist.

In rare and severe cases patients may experience serious side effects such as hives (urticaria) – itchy, raised areas of skin that may look red, although the redness may be harder to see on brown or black skin or anaphylactic reactions.
