Hiprex Information:
Hiprex is used to treat Urinary Tract Infections. Methenamine hippurate is an antibiotic that is used to treat and prevent urinary tract infections. It is absorbed from the gut and passes into the urine where it releases the chemical formaldehyde (however this can only occur if the urine is acidic). This chemical causes the breakdown of proteins essential to the bacteria, which ultimately results in the death of the bacteria.
