Ritonavir is an protease inhibitor which prevents human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) cells from multiplying and spreading in the body. Human immunodeficiency virus leads to acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), and Ritonavir is used to treat HIV, however it is not a cure for HIV and AIDS. Human immunodeficiency virus can still be passed on to other people through unprotected sex or sharing of needles even while you are taking Ritonavir.

Norvir Side Effects:

Prior to taking Ritonavir, you should consult with your physician regarding all other medications you may be on, as some medications may cause life threatening side effects if taken with Ritonavir. Some of the symptoms of serious side effects may include fever, sore throat, headache with severe blistering, peeling, red skin rash, increased urination, easy bruising or bleeding, infections (cough, flu, fever symptoms), stomach & back pain, nausea, vomiting, increased heart rate, loss of appetite, jaundice, and dark urine. Some of the less serious side effects that may occur include, mild nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, numbness or tingling (around mouth), headache, mood changes, and changes in the shape or location of body fat.
