Metrogel Information:
MetroGel (generic name: Metronidazole) is a topical drug which is prescribed for the treatment of skin lesions caused by rosacea. The active ingredient in MetroGel is Metronidazole. Metronidazole is an antibiotic. It works by helping to fight bacteria in the body that cause rosacea. Rosacea is a chronic skin condition characterized by facial erythema, which is redness of the skin. The patient may also notice red pimples on the face. Rosacea is similar in appearance to acne, and it is caused by bacteria on the skin that irritate the skin and cause flare ups. Small blood vessels in the skin can also become visible. MetroGel is not a cure for Rosacea, as there is no cure for the condition; however it does help to treat and reduce the symptoms.
Metrogel Side Effects:
As with any drug, there may be side effects from taking MetroGel including mild itching, stinging, burning, dryness of treated skin, vaginal itching, dry or scaly skin, nausea and stuffy nose, sore throat and cough.
