Mycobutin Information:
Rifabutin is a rifamycin antibiotic used to prevent Mycobacterium Avium Complex (MAC). Rifabutin can be used for any infections caused by myobacteria such as MAC, and Myobacteria tuberculosis. It is suggested that Rifabutin therapy be given in combination with other antimycobacterial drugs not belonging to the family of rifamycins.
Mycobutin Side Effects:In some patients, Rifabutin may cause a brown-orange discoloration of the urine, stools, saliva, sputum, perspiration, tears and skin. It may also color or stain contact lenses. Some more serious side effects of Rifabutin are rashes, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, muscle pain, and light sensitivity. If you notice any other side effects not listed above you should contact your doctor as soon as possible.
While taking Rifabutin, the effectiveness of birth control may decrease and it may also lower the white blood cell count.
