Civanex Information:

Civanex (generic name: Zucapsaicin) is a drug directed for the treatment of pain caused by arthritis, neuralgias, and psoriasis. Osteoarthritis is the most common type of arthritis, which affects over 20 million US citizens. Women are more susceptible to this arthritis than men, and it is more common over the age of 45. Osteoarthritis affects the fingers, spinal column and weight-bearing joints such as the hips, knees and feet. The most common symptom of osteoarthritis is pain, and this can become so severe that it is debilitating to the patient. For some patients with osteoarthritis, relief of mild to moderate joint pain is treated with acetaminophen or a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), such as ibuprofen, however even these OTC medications have certain side effects and drug interactions. Civanex is a topical medication without systemic absorption, which can be utilized as either monotherapy or adjunctive therapy absent risk of systemic side effects or drug interactions, would be quite advantageous.

Civanex Side Effects:

As with any drug, there may be side effects from taking Civanex. The most common side effects are burning and irritation at the site of the injection. More serious side effects may include an allergic reaction which may manifest itself with symptoms such as rash, itching, swelling and difficulty breathing. There may be other side effects, and if you experience any side effects you must seek medical attention immediately for safety.

Civanex Directions:

You should follow the instructions of the doctor who prescribed Civanex to you. Directions and dosage information can also be found on the pack or leaflet inside the pack. Civanex comes in injection form. The injection should be administered by a medical professional in a doctor’s office. Civanex should be stored at room temperature away from direct sunlight and heat.

Civanex Precautions:

If you are allergic to any of the ingredients of Civanex, you should avoid taking it and inform your doctor. You must consult your doctor if you have any pre-existing medical conditions including kidney or liver disease, or any other condition that you take pain medication for. You must consult your doctor if you are taking any other medications as they may interact with Civanex, including any other pain medications including NSAIDs. It is important that you inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to conceive or breastfeeding as Civanex may cause harm to unborn and new born babies.
