What other drugs will affect Prevacid?
Prevacid should be taken at least 30 minutes before taking
sucralfate to prevent an interaction. Sucralfate (Carafate), which is also
used to treat stomach conditions, will decrease the amount of Prevacid that
is absorbed through the stomach
Prevacid hinders the absorption of some medicines from the stomach. They
include- ketoconazole (Nizoral), ampicillin (Omnipen, Principen), digoxin
(Lanoxin, Lanoxicaps), and iron (Feosol, Mol-Iron, Fergon, Femiron). These
medications may have decreased effects if taken with Prevacid. If you are
taking any of these medications, inform your doctor.
Consult with your doctor and pharmacist before taking any prescription or
over-the-counter medicines, including herbal products. Drugs other than
those listed here may also interact with Aciphex or affect your condition.
What should you watch for while taking Prevacid?
Several days can be taken to improve your stomach pain by using Prevacid.
If your condition does not improve, or if it gets worse, inform your doctor
as soon as possible. If your doctor tells you otherwise you can also take
antacids for the occasional relief from pain. But do not take any new medicine
on your own without discussing with your doctor.
Prevacid is a proton pump
inhibitor (PPI) used to treat ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux (GERD), heartburn,
erosive esophagitis, or Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Prevacid may also be
used to treat ulcers due to long-term use of certain pain/anti-inflammatory
drugs (NSAIDs). This medicine works by blocking acid production in the stomach.
It may be used in combination with antibiotics (e.g., amoxicillin, clarithromycin)
to treat certain types of ulcers. It may also be used to treat other conditions
as determined by your doctor. |
