What should you watch for while
taking Paxil?
It is recommended to take your medicine regularly even if you not feel better;
this is because it may take several weeks to get the full effect of Paxil.
Visit your doctor for regular checks on your progress.
It is the duty of patient’s doctor and families to watch and keep
noticing the condition of a patient for worsening depression or thoughts
of suicide. It is also recommended that keep watching the patient for sudden
or severe changes in feelings such as feeling anxious, agitated, panicky,
irritable, hostile, aggressive, impulsive, severely restless, overly excited
and hyperactive, or not being able to sleep. Call the doctor immediately
if you notice any of the above symptoms at the starting of the antidepressant
treatment or after adjusting a dose.
Do not suddenly stop taking Paxil, if you have been taking Paxil regularly
from some time. Your symptoms may get worse if you suddenly stop taking
this medicine. Ask your doctor for advising you about slowly stopping Paxil.
Without consulting your doctor do not treat yourself for coughs, colds,
or allergies. Some ingredients in the medicines for these diseases can increase
possible side effects. Drowsiness or dizziness is the possible side effects
that may occur at the time you are taking Paxil. Until you know how Paxil
affects you, do not drive, use machinery, or do anything that needs mental
alertness. If you are an older patient then do not stand or sit up quickly.
This reduces the risk of dizzy or fainting spells. Do not take alcohol
while taking Paxil. Avoid alcoholic drinks.
While taking Paxil your mouth may get dry. It will be good if you chew
sugarless gum or suck hard candy and drink plenty of water.
Consult with your doctor if you are going to have surgery and inform him
or her that you are taking Paxil.
Paxil is used to treat
depression, panic attacks, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), social anxiety
disorder (social phobia) and generalized anxiety disorders (GAD); this medicine
is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI). The balance of certain
natural substances in the brain (neurotransmitters) is restored with the
help of SSRIs. Paroxetine can also be used in other circumstances for treatment,
as if determined by your doctor including severe premenstrual syndrome (premenstrual
dysphoric disorder), sexual problems in men (premature ejaculation), nerve
problems associated with diabetes (diabetic neuropathy), chronic headaches,
or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). |
