What should you discuss with your healthcare
provider before taking albuterol?
It is recommended that before using Albuterol tell your doctor if you have
- an overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism),
- liver disease,
- heart disease or high blood pressure,
- epilepsy or another seizure disorder,
- kidney disease,
- difficulty swallowing, or
- diabetes.
If you have any of the conditions listed above then you may not be able
to take Albuterol, or you may need a dosage adjustment or special monitoring
during treatment.
It is recommended not to take Albuterol without first talking to your doctor
if you are pregnant or could become pregnant during treatment. Albuterol
is in the FDA pregnancy category C. This means that it is unknown whether
it will be harmful to an unborn baby
Without consulting to your doctor, do not take Albuterol if you are breast-feeding
a baby. This is because it is not known that Albuterol passes into breast
milk and may affect a nursing infant.
Consult with your doctor and pharmacist before taking any prescription or
over-the-counter medicines, including herbal products. Drugs other than
those listed here may also interact with Albuterol or affect your condition.
Albuterol is used to treat
or prevent the symptoms of asthma, emphysema, and other breathing conditions;
this medicine is a bronchodilator. Prevention of the symptoms of exercise-induced
asthma may also be done by using this medicine. It can also be used in other
circumstances for treatment, as if determined by your doctor. |
