Why is Zoloft prescribed?

What should you discuss with your healthcare provider before taking Zoloft?
If you have taken a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) such as isocarboxazid (Marplan), phenelzine (Nardil), or tranylcypromine (Parnate) during the last 2 weeks then it is advised not to take Zoloft. If these medicines used together, they can cause serious and sometimes fatal reactions

If you are taking pimozide (Orap) in that case do not take Zoloft. A dangerous drug interaction could result.

Tell/Inform your doctor if you have liver disease, Kidney disease, suffer from seizures or suffer from mania or have suicidal thoughts, before taking Zoloft.
If you have any of the conditions listed above then you may not be able to take Zoloft, or you may need a dosage adjustment or special monitoring during treatment

It is recommended not to take Zoloft without first talking to your doctor if you are pregnant or could become pregnant during treatment. Zoloft is in the FDA pregnancy category C. This means that it is not known whether it will be harmful to an unborn baby.

Without consulting to your doctor, do not take Zoloft if you are breast-feeding a baby. This is because it is not known whether Zoloft passes into breast milk.

Zoloft is used to treat depression, panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), social anxiety disorder (social phobia), and a severe form of premenstrual syndrome called premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD); this medicine is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI).The balance of certain natural substances in the brain (neurotransmitters) is restored with the help of SSRIs. Zoloft can also be used in other circumstances for treatment, as if determined by your doctor.
