What
should you discuss with your healthcare provider before taking Zetia (ezetimibe)?
Tell/Inform your doctor if you have liver disease, taking another cholesterol-lowering
medication, or have unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness, before
taking Zetia. If you have any of the conditions listed above then you may
not be able to take Zetia, or you may need a dosage adjustment or special
monitoring during treatment.
It is recommended not to take Zetia without first talking to your doctor
if you are pregnant or could become pregnant during treatment. Zetia is
in the FDA pregnancy category C. This means that it is not known whether
it will be harmful to an unborn baby.
Without consulting to your doctor, do not take Zetia if you are breast-feeding
a baby. This is because it is not known whether Zetia passes into breast
milk.
Zetia is used to lower cholesterol in the blood; this medicine
may be used alone or in combination with other cholesterol lowering drugs
(e.g., HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors or "statins"), along with
a cholesterol-lowering diet. Strokes and heart attacks are prevented by
reduction in cholestrol. The amount of cholesterol which your body absorbs
from your diet is reduced by working of Ezetimibe. |
