What other drugs
will affect Zetia (ezetimibe)?
It is recommended that before taking Zetia consult with your doctor if you
are taking any of the following medicines:
- cyclosporine (Sandimmune, Neoral, Gengraf) or
- another medicine to lower cholesterol such as gemfibrozil (Lopid), fenofibrate
(Tricor), clofibrate (Atromid-S), atorvastatin (Zetia), fluvastatin (Lescol),
lovastatin (Altocor, Mevacor), pravastatin (Pravachol), or simvastatin (Zocor).
If you are taking any of the medicines listed above then you may not be
able to take Zetia, or you may require a dosage adjustment or special monitoring
during treatment.
Zetia (ezetimibe) should be taken 2 hours before or 4 hours after a bile
acid sequestrant such as cholestyramine (Locholest, Prevalite, Questran),
colestipol (Colestid), or colesevelam (Welchol).
Consult with your doctor and pharmacist before taking any prescription or
over-the-counter medicines, including herbal products. Drugs other than
those listed here may also interact with Lipitor or affect your condition.
Zetia is used to lower cholesterol in the blood; this medicine
may be used alone or in combination with other cholesterol lowering drugs
(e.g., HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors or "statins"), along with
a cholesterol-lowering diet. Strokes and heart attacks are prevented by
reduction in cholestrol. The amount of cholesterol which your body absorbs
from your diet is reduced by working of Ezetimibe. |
