Special
warnings about Protonix
Protonix is not suggested for long-term use and should not be used for longer
periods. It has been proved that Protonix is safe and effective only if
used up to 16 weeks.
Severe allergic reaction, severe swelling of the face and throat, eye damage,
dangerous skin reactions, and inflammation of the pancreas are the side
effects which can be caused by taking Protonix. These side effects are extremely
rare but very serious if caused. If you begin to have difficulty breathing
or swallowing, or begin to develop blisters, eruptions, or peeling skin,
inform your doctor as soon as possible. Inform your doctor if you have
a liver condition. You may require a dosage adjustment or special monitoring
during treatment if you have liver condition.
Protonix has not been tested for safety or effectiveness in children.
Protonix helps to control NIGHTTIME heartburn and other
symptoms associated with erosive GERD. Of course, only a doctor can determine
if you have erosive esophagitis; this medicine is a proton pump inhibitor
(PPI). Acid production in the stomach is blocked when this medicine works.
Antibiotics including amoxicillin or clarithromycin may be used in combination
with this medicine for treatment of certain types of ulcers. It can also
be used in other circumstances for treatment, as if determined by your
doctor.
