What
should you discuss with your healthcare provider before taking Protonix?
Tell/Inform your doctor if you have a liver disease, before taking this
medication
If you have any of the conditions listed above then you may not be able
to take Protonix, or you may need a dosage adjustment or special monitoring
during treatment.
It is recommended not to take Protonix without first talking to your doctor
if you are pregnant or could become pregnant during treatment. Protonix
is in the FDA pregnancy category B. This means that it is unlikely to harm
an unborn baby.
Without consulting to your doctor, do not take Protonix if you are breast-feeding
a baby. This is because it is not known whether Protonix passes into breast
milk.
What
should you watch for while taking Protonix?
It can take many days of therapy to improve your situation while taking
Protonix before your stomach pains improve. If your condition does not improve,
or if it gets worse, Consult with your doctor immediately. If your doctor
recommends you then you can take antacids for the occasional relief of stomach
pain.
Protonix helps to control NIGHTTIME heartburn and other
symptoms associated with erosive GERD. Of course, only a doctor can determine
if you have erosive esophagitis; this medicine is a proton pump inhibitor
(PPI). Acid production in the stomach is blocked when this medicine works.
Antibiotics including amoxicillin or clarithromycin may be used in combination
with this medicine for treatment of certain types of ulcers. It can also
be used in other circumstances for treatment, as if determined by your doctor. |
