What
other drugs will affect Protonix?
It is recommended that before using Protonix, tell your doctor if you are
taking any of the following medicine
- iron (Feosol, Mol-Iron, Fergon, Femiron, others),
- ketoconazole (Nizoral), or
- ampicillin (Omnipen, Principen)
If you are taking any of the medicines listed above then you may not be
able to take Protonix, or you may require a dosage adjustment or special
monitoring during treatment.
Consult with your doctor and pharmacist before taking any prescription or
over-the-counter medicines, including herbal products. Drugs other than
those listed here may also interact with Protonix or affect your condition.
Protonix helps to control NIGHTTIME heartburn and other
symptoms associated with erosive GERD. Of course, only a doctor can determine
if you have erosive esophagitis; this medicine is a proton pump inhibitor
(PPI). Acid production in the stomach is blocked when this medicine works.
Antibiotics including amoxicillin or clarithromycin may be used in combination
with this medicine for treatment of certain types of ulcers. It can also
be used in other circumstances for treatment, as if determined by your doctor. |
