What other drugs
will affect Plavix?
If you have taken a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) such as isocarboxazid
(Marplan), phenelzine (Nardil), or tranylcypromine (Parnate) during the
last 2 weeks then it is recommended not to take Plavix.
It is recommended that before using Plavix tell your doctor if you are taking:-
- a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication such as ibuprofen (Advil,
Motrin, others), naproxen (Anaprox, Naprosyn, Aleve), ketoprofen (Orudis
KT, Orudis, Oruvail), indomethacin (Indocin), diclofenac (Cataflam, Voltaren),
diflunisal (Dolobid), etodolac (Lodine), fenoprofen (Nalfon), flurbiprofen
(Ansaid), nabumetone (Relafen), oxaprozin (Daypro), piroxicam (Feldene),
sulindac (Clinoril), or tolmetin (Tolectin).lithium (Eskalith, Lithobid,
Lithonate, Lithotabs).
- warfarin (Coumadin);
- heparin, ardeparin (Normiflo), dalteparin (Fragmin), danaparoid (Orgaran),
enoxaparin (Lovenox), or tinzaparin (Innohep); or
- aspirin;
Bleeding can be caused by the medicines listed above, especially when taken
with Plavix. This could become dangerous. It is recommended that do not
take Plavix with the medicines listed above without consulting with doctor.If
you are taking any of the medications listed above, you may require a dosage
adjustment or special monitoring. Consult with your doctor and pharmacist
before taking any prescription or over-the-counter medicines, including
herbal products. Drugs other than those listed here may also interact with
Plavix or affect your condition.
Plavix is used to reduce the
risk of stroke or heart attack in patients with atherosclerosis; this medicine
is an antiplatelet agent. It can also be used in other circumstances for
treatment, as if determined by your doctor. |
