What should you
discuss with your healthcare provider before taking Plavix?
It is recommended that if you have active bleeding anywhere in the body
such as the stomach (ulcer) or in the head (type of stroke) then do not
take Plavix.
Tell/Inform your doctor if you have a bleeding or blood disorder, have liver
disease, have or have had a stomach or intestinal ulcer need to have surgery
(including dental surgery) before taking this medication.
If you have any of the conditions listed above then you may not be able
to take Plavix, or you may need a dosage adjustment or special monitoring
during treatment.
It is recommended not to take Plavix without first talking to your doctor
if you are pregnant or could become pregnant during treatment. Plavix is
in the FDA pregnancy category B. This means that it is unlikely to harm
an unborn baby. Without consulting to your doctor, do not take Plavix if
you are breast-feeding a baby. This is because it is not known whether Plavix
passes into breast milk.
Plavix is used to reduce the risk of stroke or heart attack
in patients with atherosclerosis; this medicine is an antiplatelet agent.
It can also be used in other circumstances for treatment, as if determined
by your doctor. |
