What is a Heart-Healthy
Diet?
Before starting any diet program, consult with your doctor.
Keep in mind that your doctor is the only best source of information regarding
your health. If you have any questions about your health or your medication
then please consult your doctor.
To improve your health the most important thing you can do is eating healthy
foods, low in cholesterol and saturated fat. To know what makes a healthy
and balanced diet, a lot of information is available.
It's no doubt if you feel puzzled and frustrated by the lack of consistent
information.
Some general guidelines for a healthy diet, based on the recommendations
of the National Cholesterol Education Program (NCEP) are given below:
Eat more fruits and vegetables and less animal products.
Always read nutrition labels and ingredients carefully.
Choose 2 to 3 servings of fish, shellfish, lean poultry, other lean meats,
beans, or nuts daily. Trim fat from meat and take skin off poultry.
Keep yourself away from heavy toppings, such as butter, cream cheese, and
oil-based dressings.
Choose fruit as dessert more often.
Eat more foods that are high in fiber. Best bets: dry beans, peas, and lentils
Take a diet which is low in saturated fat and cholesterol and moderate in
total fat.
Finally, be familiar with the difficulty of changing your habits. It's important
to give yourself nonfood rewards for making good dietary choices. When you
really follow the dietary plan and regularly stick with that, give yourself
rewards.
Plavix is used to reduce the
risk of stroke or heart attack in patients with atherosclerosis; this medicine
is an antiplatelet agent. It can also be used in other circumstances for
treatment, as if determined by your doctor. |
