Lowering high cholesterol
It is important to lower your Cholesterol, no matter what your age or health.
There are a few changes you can make to your lifestyle that can help to
lower your cholesterol. They are as follows: Regular exercise
It is recommended to do exercise for 30 minute a day. The exercise includes:
swimming, jogging, walking, cycling, aerobic dances or any activity that
you enjoy that increases your heart rate safely. Consult with your doctor
what is right for you, before starting any exercise program. At
home
- Instead of hiring someone else to do your work, do it yourself.
- Stand up while talking on the telephone.
- Instead of driving, go to the corner store by walk.
- Cut the grass in garden or work in garden. Using the grass cutter doesn’t
count! Rake leaves, trim, dig and pick up trash.
- Before breakfast, go out for a short walk. Start with 5-10 minutes and
work up to 30 minutes, after dinner or both!
- While watching TV up instead of lying on the sofa. While watching TV,
spend a few minutes pedaling on your stationary bicycle.
- Get your drink and food yourself, instead of asking others.
- Park your vehicle away from the shopping mall and cover the distance by
walk. Wear your walking shoes and take the extra rounds around the mall.
- Always keep exercise equipment in working order and use it!
Weight loss
You can lower the low-density lipoprotein (LDL) or “bad” cholesterol
by losing extra weight. Make sure to consult with your doctor, to find out
the healthiest way to lose extra weight. It’s also important if you
are at risk for heart disease or you have diabetes. At
play
- Join a recreational club that emphasizes physical activity.
- Join in on badminton at a picnic.
- See the sights in new cities by walking, jogging or bicycling.
- At the beach, sit and watch the waves instead of lying flat. Better yet,
get up and walk, run or fly a kite.
- Dance with someone or by yourself. Take dancing lessons. Hit the dance
floor on fast numbers instead of slow ones.
- Play your favorite music while exercising, something that motivates you.
- Make a date with a friend to enjoy your favorite physical activities.
Do them regularly.
- Plan family outings and vacations that include physical activity (hiking,
backpacking, swimming, etc.) A healthier diet
You don’t always have to give up the whole thing that you enjoy to
eat. Don’t get worried. To get a balance and healthy diet, take fruit,
vegetables, grains and lean proteins every day. By eating proper and healthy
food you can add your favorite foods in as special treats. Sometimes,
diet and exercise aren’t enough
Lipitor, along with diet and exercise, can help lower your cholesterol.
This is because diet and exercise may not lower cholesterol enough, for
2 out of 3 adults with high cholesterol. It is recommended to stick with
Lipitor, unless your doctor asks you to stop taking the Lipitor and take
the medicine according to the instructions given by the doctor.
Lipitor is used to lower cholesterol
and triglyceride levels in your blood; this medicine is an HMG-CoA reductase
inhibitor (also known as a "statin"). It can also be used in other
circumstances for treatment like to reduce your risk of heart attack, blood
vessel blockage, or chest pain, as if determined by your doctor. |
