The difference between good and bad cholesterol and triglycerides

Two lipoproteins you may have heard of are HDL and LDL.

“Good” cholesterol – (HDL) cholesterol
HDL cholesterol or High-density lipoprotein is known as “good cholesterol” because this helps to remove cholesterol from the blood. Risk of coronary heart disease can be reduced by High levels of HDL in your blood. A low level can increase your risk

“Bad” cholesterol – (LDL) cholesterol
LDL cholesterol or Low-density lipoprotein is called as “bad cholesterol”. Heart disease can be caused when excess LDL builds up in your arteries. The higher the level of LDL, the higher your risk for heart disease.

Triglycerides
Another type of fat carried in your blood is Triglycerides. Risk of heart disease can be increased if there is a high triglyceride level. Most of the body’s fat tissue that comes from the fat in foods is in the form of triglycerides which are stored for energy.
