What other drugs will affect
Lipitor?
It is recommended that do not take Lipitor or before using Lipitor consult
with your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines: gemfibrozil
(Lopid);
- fluconazole (Diflucan), itraconazole (Sporanox), or ketoconazole (Nizoral);
- cyclosporine (Sandimmune, Neoral);
- erythromycin (E-Mycin, E.E.S., Ery-Tab, Ilotycin, Eryc, PCE, Ilosone,
others);
- niacin (Nicolar, Nicobid, Nicotinex, others);or
- cyclosporine (Sandimmune, Neoral).
Your muscles may be damaged if Lipitor is taken along with the above listed
medications.
It is recommended that before using Lipitor tell your doctor if you are
taking any of the following medicines:
- digoxin (Lanoxin, Lanoxicaps).
- other cholesterol-lowering drugs such as cholestyramine (Questran) or
- colestipol (Colestid).
If you are taking any of the medicines listed above then you may not be
able to take Lipitor, or you may require a dosage adjustment or special
monitoring during treatment.
Consult with your doctor and pharmacist before taking any prescription or
over-the-counter medicines, including herbal products. Drugs other than
those listed here may also interact with Lipitor or affect your condition.
Lipitor is used to lower cholesterol
and triglyceride levels in your blood; this medicine is an HMG-CoA reductase
inhibitor (also known as a "statin"). It can also be used in other
circumstances for treatment like to reduce your risk of heart attack, blood
vessel blockage, or chest pain, as if determined by your doctor. |
