Information for Patients
Follow the instructions of the doctor. It is advisable that patients should
swallow the Asacol tablets whole, without break the outer coating of medicine.
In 2 to 3% of patients in Asacol clinical trials and also in the post-marketing
setting, patients reported passage in the stool of what appeared to be intact
tablets, tablet shells, or fragments of tablets. If this occurs in a repeated
manner then patients should contact their physician. Those Patients who
have ulcerative colitis should aware that ulcerative colitis rarely remits
completely, and that the risk of relapse can be substantially reduced by
continued administration of Asacol at the maintenance dosage.
