Compare Zyrtec
Zyrtec is approved for the relief of indoor and outdoor allergy symptoms.
Zyrtec (cetirizine HCl 5 mg and 10 mg)In Zyrtec studies, side effects in
adults were mild or moderate, including drowsiness, fatigue and dry mouth
, and drowsiness, headache, sore throat and stomach pain in children. Drowsiness
mosltly occurred in between 11% and 14% in adults,but it depends on the
dosage, compared with 6% taking placebo. In children, drowsiness occurred
in between 2% and 4%, depending on dose, compared with 1% taking placebo.In
Zyrtec studies with infants 6 to 23 months old, side effects overall were
similar to placebo and included irritability/fussiness, insomnia, fatigue
and malaise.
Zyrtec-D 12 Hour (cetirizine HCl 5 mg/pseudoephedrine HCl
120 mg) Extended Release Tablets
In Zyrtec studies, side effects in adults were mild or moderate, including
drowsiness, fatigue and dry mouth in adults, and drowsiness, headache, sore
throat and stomach pain in children. Drowsiness mainly occurred in between
11% and 14% in adults, but it depends on the dosage, compared with 6% taking
placebo. In children, drowsiness occurred in between 2% and 4%, depending
on dose, compared with 1% taking placebo.
Due to its pseudoephedrine component, Zyrtec-D 12 Hour is contraindicated
in patients with narrow-angle glaucoma, urinary retention, severe hypertension,
or severe coronary artery disease and in patients receiving monoamine oxidase
(MAO) inhibitor therapy or within fourteen (14) days of stopping such treatment.
Caution is advisable for those patients those who have hypertension, diabetes
mellitus, ischemic heart disease, increased intraocular pressure, hyperthyroidism,
renal impairment, or prostatic hypertrophy. Pseudoephedrine hydrochloride
may produce arrhythmias and cardiovascular collapse with accompanying hypotension.
Care should be taken in the concomitant administration of other sympathomimetic
amines because combined effects on the cardiovascular system may be harmful
to the patient.
Pseudoephedrine hydrochloride may cause CNS stimulation in hypersensitive
patients. Nervousness, excitability, convulsions, tremor, restlessness,
dizziness, weakness, or insomnia may occur. The more adverse reactions of
sympathomimetic amines are more likely to experience in the elder age.
Zyrtec is available in 5,10 mg in a tablets form, 5 mg and 10 mg chewable
tablets, and 1 mg/mL syrup form. Zyrtec-D 12 HOUR is available in an extended
