Description of Zyrtec

Zyrtec is an antihistamine which is used to treat allergy symptoms such as runny nose, watery eyes itching eyes, sneezing, itching and hives.
Zyrtec may cause drowsiness. It is advisable to be careful while driving or operating dangerous machinery or participating in any hazardous activity that requires full mental alertness until you know how you react to this medication. Cetirizine may cause dizziness or drowsiness. If you experience dizziness or drowsiness, avoid these activities. Alcohol may increase drowsiness and dizziness while taking cetirizine, caution is advised while you taking alcohol. Check with your doctor first,while you are taking cetirizine, it is recommended by doctor to not to take other prescription or over-the-counter cough, cold, or allergy medications. This is the most important fact about this drug.

Zyrtec is an orally active and selective H1-receptor antagonist. The chemical name of Zyrtec is (±) - [2- [4- [(4-chlorophenyl) phenyl methyl] -1- piperazinyl] ethoxy] acetic acid, dihydrochloride Zyrtec is a racemic compound with an experiential formula of C21H25C1N2O3•2HCl. The molecular weight is 461.82 and the chemical structure is shown below:Zyrtec is white in color, crystalline powder and is water soluble. Zyrtec tablets are formulated as white, film-coated, rounded-off rectangular shaped tablets. For oral administration this drug available in 5 and 10 mg strengths. Inactive Ingredients of Zyrtec are Lactose; magnesium stearate; povidone; titanium dioxide; hydroxypropyl methylcellulose; polyethylene glycol; and corn starch. Where as Zyrtec syrup is a colorless to slightly yellow syrup which containing cetirizine HCl at a concentration of 1 mg/ml (5 mg/5 ml) for oral administration. The pH is between 4 and 5.
