Lexapro and GAD
Lexapro is a proven SSRI therapy for GAD
Lexapro, also known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, is now indicated
for the treatment of Generalized Anxiety Disorder. Lexapro also helps to
restore the brain's chemical balance by increasing the available supply
of serotonin, a substance in the brain believed to influence mood and associated
with depression and anxiety disorders. Lexapro appears to relieve GAD by
increasing serotonin levels without affecting many of the other chemicals
in the brain, which may lead to fewer and milder side effects.
You need to take 3 clinical trials while treatment of GAD to get full effectiveness
of Lexapro. Patients taking Lexapro 10 to 20 mg/day experienced significant
improvement of their GAD symptoms as early as week 1. By week 8, the majority
of patients responded to Lexapro therapy and experienced significant improvement
in their ability to function, as measured by the Quality of Life Scale.
Additionally, an analysis also showed that Lexapro is well-tolerated therapy
for GAD.
Always take Lexapro as prescribed by your doctor. People don't suddenly
develop GAD, and full recovery takes time. It is advisable by Healthcare
professionals or Doctor to take Lexapro treatment even if symptoms are improving
or have resolved.
For many patients, relief from symptoms of depression and GAD may begin
after taking Lexapro for 1 or 2 weeks, but most people can expect to feel
the full benefits of Lexapro in 4 to 6 weeks. |
