Causes of GAD
It is difficult to explain the causes of Generalized Anxiety Disorder, just
like other complex medical illnesses, like heart disease and diabetes, Research
shows that environmental and genetic factors influence a person to developing
the disorder. According to various experts GAD may be caused by an imbalance
of certain chemicals in the brain in particular, two neurotransmitters called
dopamine and serotonin, which regulates mood and behavior. A diagnosis of
depression, or other anxiety disorders, may make you more likely to develop
GAD. Highly stressful event in your life may also cause GAD, such as:
A childhood psychological trauma
The death of a loved one
Divorce
Losing your job, or changing jobs
The symptoms of GAD mostly begin during childhood, but they can also begin
in adulthood also. People of all ages are affected by GAD, and the disorder
is twice as likely to appear in women as in men. National Institute of Mental
Health estimated that, about 19 million people suffer from depression and
8 million from GAD each year. |
