Drug description
Lexapro has been proven a successful and well-tolerated prescription medication
for adults those who suffering from depression and generalized anxiety disorder
(GAD). Lexapro was derived by isolating the Celexa® molecule, known
as an isomer. This has provided Lexapro with treatment benefits beyond Celexa®.
Depression is mainly caused by an imbalance in the brain of serotonin, a
chemical that affects mood.
It has been proved that the patient’s who takes 10 mg dose of Lexapro
experience minimum side effects compared to patients who took a placebo
(sugar pill).
You can take Lexapro for depression and GAD. when Lexapro compared with
Effexor XR (venlafaxine HCl) in one of the clinical study, Lexapro was significantly
more effective in treating severely depressed patients patient dropout rates
due to adverse events were 4% with Lexapro versus 16% with Effexor®
XR (venlafaxine HCl). In another study, comparing Lexapro to Zoloft®
(sertraline HCl), results showed that Lexapro at its starting dose of 10
mg was as effective as sertraline titrated between 50-200 mg and a median
dose of 150 mg. Nearly half the patients received 200 mg of sertraline.
The results have shown major improvement and reduction with modest side
effects and overall excellent tolerability. |
