Avoiding asthma triggers
Suppose your asthma can act up and you are at work, at home, or at play.
The reactions of asthma are varying from persons to persons. But with the
following the tips, you can learn to minimize the asthma triggers around
you so you can live a more symptom-free life.
If you know or you identify the symptoms, in that case you are able to control
asthma triggers. Because identifying and avoiding asthma triggers should
be a major part of a detailed action plan to help manage your asthma successfully.
It is quite difficult to eliminate all asthma triggers completely, but you
should try to remove as many triggers as possible from your home and work
environments.
Care for colds and infections.
Stay healthy by eating right, exercising, and avoiding others with colds.
Your doctor can help you with a treatment plan.
Monitor your medicines.
If you are an asthma patient so you should avoid, Aspirin, cold medicines,
no steroidal medicines, some medicines for heart disease and high blood
pressure, and even some eye drops may cause your asthma to act up. So consult
with your doctor about all the medicines you are taking.
Eat foods that won't trigger your asthma.
If you feel that your asthma seems to act up after eating and drinking certain
foods and drinks, like wine, beer shrimp, dried fruit, or processed potatoes,
just try to eliminate them.
Avoid pollen or outdoor mold.
During allergy season, when pollen counts are high. Try to stay inside midday
and afternoon. Close your doors and windows to keep out airborne pollens
and molds that may trigger your asthma.
Reduce smoke, strong odors, and sprays.
Avoid smoking from cigarettes, pipes, or even a stove, it may irritate your
asthma symptoms. Irritation may be occurring if you use perfumes, paints,
hair spray, and powders. Moreover, these scents and odors may often linger
in your house. So just avoid these things as much as possible.
Turn on the air conditioning.
If airborne pollens and molds trigger your asthma, air condition is the
solution it, can help relieve some symptoms of trigging asthma. However,
air conditioning can cause temperatures to change abruptly, which in turn
can trigger an asthma attack. So be sure to monitor the air conditioning
carefully.
Take cover in cold weather.
It is advisable to cover your nose and mouth with a scarf on cold or windy
days to avoid an asthma flare-up.
Control on your pets.
Asthma trigger may be occurring by your lovable pets. Pet dander can even
spread throughout your home. Keep pets away from your furniture covered
in fabric, bedroom carpets, and even stuffed toys.
Eliminate mites and cockroaches.
Keep your home as neat and clean as possible if you are asthma patient.
To get rid of mites, cover your mattresses properly and box springs with
dust-proof covers and wash all bedding in hot water once a week. Change
your pillows at least once every 4-5 years. To avoid roaches, use traps
and avoid leaving food out.
Use man-made fibers, not feathers.
While feather and down pillows, quilts, and cushions may seem comfy, they
may cause your asthma to act up. Instead, buy ones filled with man-made
fibers. Always prefer replacing curtains with blinds, and carpets with wood
