Important Information About Actos
Actos can cause fluid retention that may lead to heart failure, so tell
your doctor if you have a history of these conditions. While taking Actos
if you experience rapid weight gain, fluid retention, or shortness of breath
then immediately tell your doctor. Do not take Actos If you have moderate
to severe heart failure. Your health professional should perform a blood
test to check for liver problems before you start Actos and periodically
thereafter. Actos is not recommended if you have active liver disease. It
is advisable to ask your doctor immediately if you experience nausea, vomiting,
stomach pain, tiredness, loss of appetite, dark urine, or yellowing of the
skin. If you are of childbearing age, talk to your health professional before
taking Actos as it could increase your chance of becoming pregnant.
It has been observed that while taking Actos some people may experience
flu-like symptoms, mild to moderate swelling of legs and ankles, and anemia.
When taking Actos with insulin or sulfonylureas, you may be at risk for
low blood glucose. Management of type 2 diabetes requires nutritional counseling,
weight reduction as needed, and exercise. When diet and exercise are not
enough, Actos may be used alone or in combination with sulfonylureas, metformin,
or insulin to improve blood glucose control. Actos should not be recommended
for type 1 diabetes. |
